Neatest Toys (310)

Under construction...

This is a collection of the greatest/coolest/neatest toys I have have memories of. Each one of these I (or we) had. Althought these are not the actual photographs of our toys, they are actual photographs of what the toys looked like. Obviously, we did not take pictures of our toys, we were only interested in playing with them.

It occured to me after I put this list together that everything I have listed here has to do with war, except for the Uncle Sam bank and the V8 Engine, both of which have to do with power. Could I have been that obsessed as a child?

"Rock-em Sock-em Robots"

I think my parents got us this game so we wouldn't beat each other up. How smart they were!

"Uncle Sam Register Bank"

This coin bank was fun to put money into, and it was not supposed to open until it counted $100. But somehow I always managed to pry open the door with a screwdriver, so my savings only lasted until I needed money for the next war toy.

"Risk" World Conquest Board Game

How many hours did I spend playing Risk, God only knows. But what tactics and strategies I did learn! And oh so useful in my life today as an adult!

"Stratego" War Strategy Game

Rainy days we spent battling it out playing Stratego (when we weren't playing Risk).

"Daisy 1894" BB Gun

Daisy 1894 BB Gun
Who didn't have one of these when they were kids?

M41 "Walker-Bulldog" Model Tank

Daisy 1894 BB Gun
This tank model kit I had was incredibly detailed. My friend's dad, Mr. Greer, helped me by painting it the original Army tank color. For me, it was a toy as well as a model. My friends and I played "tanks" when I was a kid, and my "Walker-Bulldog" was coolest looking tank of all of them.

"Visible V8" Engine Model

Visible V8 Engine
I loved this "moving parts" model kit. I could watch it working for hours. Engines fascinate me, even today. It had an electric motor, powered by batteries, which drove the pistons, valves, fan, cams and crank shafts. It would even light up the spark plugs when it was their turn to fire. I may have ruined my original model, because I even poored in 3-in-1 oil into the oil-filler, to try to make the engine more realistic. I'm still looking for one of these on ebay.

The Starship "Enterprise" (NCC-1701) Model

Starship Enterprise
As a kid, I was fascinated with the television series, Star Trek. As an adult, I still find myself strangely attracted to it still today, and ended up buying the Enterprise model kit. As many times as I've seen the reruns, I still love to watch them again and again.
